Obua served as FUFA chairman and was elected CECAFA chairman in 2003 till his term expired in 2007. The current chairman of FUFA Lawrence Mulindwa called this morning to break the sad news. CECAFA Secretariat mourns with the family of OBUA, FUFA and the people of Uganda during this difficulty times. Last week, CECAFA Secretariat had selected Obua to be in the official delegation to attend the CECAFA/Kagame club cup competition that starts in Kigali next week. He had also been nominated to attend a special dinner as one of Africa’s legends at the FIFA World cup finals in South Africa early June. CECAFA Chairman Leodegar Tenga of Tanzania and General Secretary Nicholas Musonye have mourned death of Obua. He will greatly be missed by the CECAFA family. Obua played for Uganda Cranes and Police FC in the late 60’s through the early 80’s becoming one of the most prolific strikers in Africa. At the height of political turmoil in Uganda, Obua stayed in Kenya for a few years during which he turned out for Luo Union. He returned to Uganda and rose through the ranks to become one of top police officers in Uganda police. He was elected FUFA chairman in 1998 and served for two terms. In 2003, he was elected Cecafa chaiman and served for four years till 2007. He was made CECAFA Honorary chairman during the General Assembly in Dar in 2007.
